It is the pair’s 2nd meeting at a Grand Slam – and Davidovich Fokina will hope that today’s clash goes better than his previous encounter with Zverev at the majors. He won just 5 games when the pair faced off in a round of 16 clash at the US Open last year. Should Davidovich Fokina overcome the No. 6 seed today, he will become just the 2nd Spanish man (apart from Rafael Nadal) to reach the semifinals at Roland Garros since 2005 – David Ferrer, who reached the last 4 here in 2013, is the only other Spanish man to have reached the semifinals here in that time. Zverev, meanwhile, is bidding to reach his 3rd Grand Slam semifinal and claim sole ownership of 4th place on the list for most Grand Slam semifinal appearances by a German man in the Open Era, ahead of Rainer Schuettler • The night session on Court Philippe-Chatrier sees the first meeting between 2 Top 5 players at Roland Garros this year, with Daniil Medvedev up against Stefanos Tsitsipas. Both players are aiming to reach their 4th Grand Slam semifinal – and both boast a perfect record in Grand Slam quarterfinal matches, so something will have to give this evening. Tsitsipas arrives in better clay court form than Medvedev, but the Russian leads the pair’s headto-head, and has won both of their previous Grand Slam meetings and their only previous clay court encounter, at 2019 Monte Carlo-1000. The pair have also lost just one set each en route to the quarterfinals here, and a close contest seems tonight a certainty.
