Rod Laver Arena

Alexander Zverev (No. 2 seed, Germany) vs Lucas Pouille (Wild Card, France)

Two-time Grand Slam finalist Alexander Zverev will take to the court tonight, starting his campaign to become the first German to win a Grand Slam men’s singles title since Boris Becker’s Australian Open victory in 1996. He faces wild card Lucas Pouille, a former Top-10 player. This marks Pouille’s second Australian Open appearance since his semifinal run here in 2019, and his first Tour-level match since reaching the third round at Wimbledon last year. Zverev, meanwhile, comes to Melbourne fresh from representing Germany at the United Cup. The two have never faced each other at Tour-level but did meet at the 2019 Hopman Cup group stage, where Zverev triumphed in three sets.

Casper Ruud (No. 6 seed, Norway) vs Jaume Munar (Spain)

Casper Ruud opens the action today, taking on world No. 61 Jaume Munar in the first match of the day. While Ruud has reached three Grand Slam finals, his best result at the Australian Open was a round-of-16 finish in 2021. Munar, on the other hand, will equal his best Grand Slam result (second round) with a win today. He has reached the second round at a major 10 times, including here in 2020 and last year. Ruud leads their head-to-head, winning two of their three Tour-level encounters and three of their four professional meetings overall. However, Munar claimed their most recent match, a hard-court clash at the 2022 Tokyo tournament.

Margaret Court Arena

Arthur Fils (No. 20 seed, France) vs Otto Virtanen (Finland)

Arthur Fils will kick off play on Margaret Court Arena against Finland’s Otto Virtanen. Fils, the No. 20 seed, reached the second round on his Australian Open debut last year and will look to build on that performance. Virtanen, meanwhile, is making his Australian Open main draw debut, his eighth Grand Slam main draw appearance overall. The two have met once before at the 2023 Quimper Challenger in France, where Fils emerged victorious in the quarterfinals.

John Cain Arena & Court 3

Ugo Humbert (No. 14 seed, France) vs Matteo Gigante (Italy)

The final match of the day on John Cain Arena features Ugo Humbert taking on Italian qualifier Matteo Gigante in a clash of left-handers.

Hugo Gaston (France) vs Omar Jasika (Wild Card, Australia)

Another left-hander battle will take place on Court 3, where Hugo Gaston faces Australian wild card Omar Jasika in the opening match of the day.

These exciting matches will set the stage for today’s Australian Open action, as players compete for a spot in the next round.
