AGDF Welcomes Back Lövsta Future Challenge Series

The Adequan® Global Dressage Festival (AGDF) is pleased to announce that the $15,000 Lövsta Future Challenge/Young Horse Grand Prix Series is returning in 2021. The highly successful series debuted in 2020 with 10 qualifying weeks of competition. The Final of the 2020 series, originally scheduled for week 12, will be held during AGDF 1 on Sunday, January 17. The 2021 series begins in AGDF 3, held January 28-31. “While we were disappointed to have to cancel the last two weeks of AGDF and postpone the series final, we are eager to host the final as a kick-off to the 2021 AGDF,” said AGDF Director of Sport Thomas Baur. “We were thrilled to see how popular it was and that so many riders, trainers, and owners appreciated the opportunity afforded to their up-and-coming grand prix horses.” The $15,000 Lövsta Future Challenge/Young Horse Grand Prix series idea, originally set up by Tinne Vilhelmson Silfvén and Louise Nathhorst in its home country of Sweden as a talent development program, is for horses age eight to ten years old at the Grand Prix level. They competed in the FEI Intermediate II test, and the qualifiers for the final included: AGDF 1: Pablo Gomez Molina (ESP) and Ulises De Ymas - 68.383% AGDF 3: Michael Klimke (GER) and Harmony’s Diabolo - 73.456% AGDF 5: Susan Dutta (USA) and Don Design DC – 69.411% AGDF 6: Jan Ebeling (USA) and Status Royal OLD – 72.353% AGDF 7: Diane Creech (CAN) and Dublin L - 69.118% AGDF 8: Michelle Gibson (USA) and Barland I.M. – 66.618% AGDF 9: Alice Tarjan (USA) and Donatella M – 74.022% AGDF 10: Ashley Holzer (USA) and Valentine – 74.044% Wild Card: Pia Fortmuller (CAN) and Kartsevo Goldfinch – 68.162% Wild Card: Nancy Smith (USA) and Damon’s Design HW – 66.102%

“We are absolutely thrilled to have seen such wonderful results throughout this season, with an average percent reaching over 70% for a win in each qualification,” said Antonia Ax:son Johnson, owner of Lövsta Stuteri and sponsor of Lövsta Future Challenge. “We are also proud to have connected our passion for the environment and sustainability with the Lövsta Future Challenge Tour. Through a new charitable initiative, we donated $250USD for every entry in the series to the local charity Friends of Palm Beach, reaching a total amount of $8,500USD for the 2020 season.”

Friends of Palm Beach is a 501(c)3 organization that cleans the beaches of Palm Beach regularly to remove incoming plastics, trash, and unnatural debris and to educate the community on the effects of this on our environment and marine life. They partner with other non-profit job placement programs to help end the cycle of homelessness while also helping to end the cycle of trash in our ocean.

Ax:son Johnson explained, “Lövsta Future Challenge is all about searching for knowledge and reaching for perfection, embracing the joy of partnership between the horse and rider, and leaving a sustainable footprint within the equestrian sport.”

She continued, “Seeing such a great outcome of the first season of Lövsta Future Challenge, we are proud to be able to announce that the tour will continue in 2021. As we all know, 2020 was a strange and difficult year. In hard times, hope, inspiration, and support are more important than ever. With that in mind, we feel very strongly about renewing our support to the ADGF and Lövsta Future Challenge, making it possible for the beautiful young Grand Prix horses and their superb teams to prepare themselves for the highest level of international dressage.

“Together with the ADGF, we look forward to a new season filled with new talents and great competitions that will shine a light towards a brighter future. With love for the horse and passion for the sport, we believe that almost anything is possible. From the bottom of our hearts, we hope to see you in Wellington this season,” Ax:son Johnson concluded.
