TALCA, September 29, 2025 — “One day, I’ll see you playing in a World Cup,” Sandra Medina told her son, Julián Bazán, when he was still kicking the ball in his neighborhood. At 19, he now fulfills that promise, representing Colombia at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile.

On matchday, Sandra waved a large Colombian flag at the Estadio Fiscal in Talca, alongside her husband and Julián’s girlfriend. Julián began playing at three and a half, and his family has supported him every step of the way—from local tournaments to youth football at Deportivo Pereira. His parents moved from Buenaventura to Pereira to give him better opportunities, traveling across Colombia to watch him grow into one of the standout players on every team he joined.

The Dream Takes Off

In August 2023, Julián was called up to the Colombian U-20 squad for the South American Championship, the first step toward the 2025 World Cup. Though his family couldn’t travel to Venezuela, they were determined to be in Chile. “When Colombia qualified, I immediately asked for vacation,” Sandra recalls. “One of us always had to support him fully. His father did, and I’m so proud.”

Now, Julián Bazán is not only living his childhood dream but also honoring the sacrifices of his family. Emerging as one of La Tricolor’s brightest talents, he credits their unwavering support for his growth and looks set to shine even brighter on the international stage.
